Christmas with Corinthians

Thank you so much to all those who attended one of our Celtic Journey concerts. We consider them a huge success, despite the somewhat tumultuous weather, and your support is greatly appreciated. It has been wonderful working with Emma and learning such gorgeous music over the last few months, and we’re thrilled with the outcome.

It’s now time to turn our attention to the Christmas season! This year we will be presenting two Christmas concerts, one at St John’s Anglican Church and one at St Peter’s Cathedral. Our programme will include a varied selection of beautiful music by composers such as Tomas Luis de Victoria, John Taverner, John Rutter, Pietro A. Yon and Ralph Vaughan Williams, with traditional Spanish carols arranged by Adelaide’s Carl Crossin. We also look forward to singing our favourite congregational carols such as O Come All Ye Faithful and Once in Royal David’s City.

We are also delighted to present two People’s Messiahs again this year, one at St John’s and one at the beautiful Coriole Winery. For the uninitiated, a People’s Messiah involves the audience joining in on all the wonderful Handel choruses, with singing ability being entirely optional. The experience is highly recommended!

Burning Bright CD

We are honoured that our recent recording, Burning Bright, has been chosen as next week’s Feature CD of the Week on 5MBS. Be sure to listen in to hear Peter Webb’s glorious settings of William Blake poems! Further details will be added as they become available.

More information about the CD can be found on the Recordings section of the website. The CD is currently on sale at John Davis Records and is also available directly from the choir. We hope it brings you joy!

Good Friday with Corinthians

Please join us on Good Friday April 2nd at 1pm in the Radford Auditorium behind the Art Gallery on North Terrace for a short programme of Easter works including Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus, excerpts from Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and from Bach’s St John Passion, and works by Tchaikovsky, Gibbons, Tallis, Palestrina and others. We are fortunate to again have guest conductor Jillian McGregor for this event, and we are especially honoured to present a new work by Adelaide Chamber Singers Director Carl Crossin written for the occasion. This work features baritone soloist Alan McKie, keyboard player Glenys March and cellist Hilary Kleinig. Tickets are only $5 – no bookings are required but be early because this event is often a sell-out.

We are extremely grateful to Arts SA for their generous support in helping to make this concert possible.

Corinthians Calendar 2010

Hello and a belated Happy New Year to all you delightful Corinthians supporters!

2010 is set to be an important year for the choir. Our wonderful musical director, Christie Anderson, made the difficult decision to end her time with the choir at the end of last year. We are very sorry to lose her and remain extremely grateful for her hard work and exceptional musicality; the choir truly blossomed under her leadership. Best of luck for the future, Christie, and please don’t forget us!

Emma HorwoodWe are very lucky to be working with two exceptional conductors this year. Jill McGregor will once again be leading us for our upcoming Good Friday concert, and then Emma Horwood will be taking over to prepare us for our September and Christmas concerts. Emma has been conducting the Elder School of Music choir Bella Voce for the past several years and is also in high demand around Adelaide as a vocal and harp soloist. You can read more about Emma at her website. We are delighted to welcome her to Corinthians.

Reminder: Christmas Concerts 2009

The Corinthians are almost finished for the year, and we’re looking forward to an exciting programme in 2010. Our two People’s Messiah’s concerts were a fabulous experience for the choir and audience alike; see the Photos page for a glimpse of the St John’s concert.

Just a reminder that our two Sing Nowell concerts are coming up very soon. The St John’s concert will take place tonight at 9pm, and the St Peter’s Cathedral concert is on Saturday at 9pm. We would be delighted to see you all there; we have some beautiful music that we’d love to share with you. See the post below for booking details.
