3:00 pm Sunday 25 March 2018 ||  St John’s Church, Halifax Street, Adelaide

Inspired by, and not wanting to miss out on, Mad March the Corinthian Singers of Adelaide will hold a concert on 3:00 pm, 25 March at St Johns, Halifax St, Adelaide – and the theme is animals.

The Corinthian Singers, with conductor Alistair Knight, will bring a menagerie of songs together about birds and beasts in Animalia, a celebration of the animal kingdom.

Included in the concert will be songs from the sublime to the hilarious on hippopotami, crickets, bees, sheep, cats and dogs. The music will range from the Renaissance to the present by composers from Josquin des Prez to Gustav Holst to Flanders and Swann.

Birds of various hues will also be included in the program – The Silver Swan by Orlando Gibbons, The Blue Bird by Charles Villiers Stanford and Blackbird by Lennon-McCartney.

Book here to join the Corinthian Singers for a delightful concert for all the family.

Messiah Madness

Here at Corinthians headquarters we are very excited about our People’s Messiah concerts, which are coming up this weekend on the 4th and 5th of December. They’re always tons of fun and a great way to welcome the Christmas season, and all proceeds go to two worthy Adelaide charities. For anyone who is unfamiliar with the concept of a People’s Messiah, the idea is that anyone can come along armed with a score (or borrow one at the door on the way in) and then join in on the choruses. Anyone is also free to just sit back and enjoy the sound, but audience participation is encouraged! Click here for further information on dates and bookings.

As we don’t sing the full Messiah at Christmas, below is a list of the choruses that we’ll be singing this year for any particularly enthusiastic participants who would like to practise beforehand.

People’s Messiah Choruses 2010:

Chorus – And the glory of the Lord
Chorus – And he shall purify
Chorus – O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion
Chorus – Glory to God
Chorus – His yoke is easy
Chorus – Lift up your heads
Chorus – The Lord gave the word
Chorus – Their sound is gone out
Chorus – Let us break their bonds asunder
Chorus – Hallelujah
Chorus – Since by man came death
Chorus – Worthy is the Lamb
Chorus – Amen

We hope to see you there!

Christmas with Corinthians

Thank you so much to all those who attended one of our Celtic Journey concerts. We consider them a huge success, despite the somewhat tumultuous weather, and your support is greatly appreciated. It has been wonderful working with Emma and learning such gorgeous music over the last few months, and we’re thrilled with the outcome.

It’s now time to turn our attention to the Christmas season! This year we will be presenting two Christmas concerts, one at St John’s Anglican Church and one at St Peter’s Cathedral. Our programme will include a varied selection of beautiful music by composers such as Tomas Luis de Victoria, John Taverner, John Rutter, Pietro A. Yon and Ralph Vaughan Williams, with traditional Spanish carols arranged by Adelaide’s Carl Crossin. We also look forward to singing our favourite congregational carols such as O Come All Ye Faithful and Once in Royal David’s City.

We are also delighted to present two People’s Messiahs again this year, one at St John’s and one at the beautiful Coriole Winery. For the uninitiated, a People’s Messiah involves the audience joining in on all the wonderful Handel choruses, with singing ability being entirely optional. The experience is highly recommended!

Corinthians Calendar 2010

Hello and a belated Happy New Year to all you delightful Corinthians supporters!

2010 is set to be an important year for the choir. Our wonderful musical director, Christie Anderson, made the difficult decision to end her time with the choir at the end of last year. We are very sorry to lose her and remain extremely grateful for her hard work and exceptional musicality; the choir truly blossomed under her leadership. Best of luck for the future, Christie, and please don’t forget us!

Emma HorwoodWe are very lucky to be working with two exceptional conductors this year. Jill McGregor will once again be leading us for our upcoming Good Friday concert, and then Emma Horwood will be taking over to prepare us for our September and Christmas concerts. Emma has been conducting the Elder School of Music choir Bella Voce for the past several years and is also in high demand around Adelaide as a vocal and harp soloist. You can read more about Emma at her website. We are delighted to welcome her to Corinthians.
