‘A Musical Banquet’ Concert

Food Now that the ice of winter is finally thawing and spring is in sight, we are busy preparing for our upcoming concert ‘A Musical Banquet’.

The Corinthians’ Musical Director Emma Horwood has put together a tantalising menu of works that includes spicy melodies, mouth-watering madrigals and deliciously sophisticated harmonies. Your musical palate promises to be delighted by melodious morsels such as the Mexican rhythms of Chilli Con Carne and the full flavours of Food Glorious Food from the musical ‘Oliver’. The main course will be a suite of songs by Bob Chilcott of King’s Singers fame, perfectly complemented by the Wassail Song arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams. This choral banquet will be accompanied by Karl Geiger on keyboard.

    ‘To Shorten Winter’s Sadness’ Concert

Outside the icy wind howls, the frost nips at our toes and the winter nights grow ever longer… come inside and be warmed by the voices of the Corinthian Singers of Adelaide. We will offer you music to bring comfort and to dissolve the sadness of winter’s chill. You are sure to be thawed and nourished by the rich choral tapestry and the beautiful surroundings of St John’s Church in the city. This cheering, warming selection of winter songs will feature John Rutter’s song cycle ‘When Icicles Hang’, Benjamin Britten’s ‘In Freezing Winter Night’ and a setting of A. A. Milne’s childhood poem ‘Sneezles’ to name but a few.

We look forward to seeing you there.

    Messiah Madness

Here at Corinthians headquarters we are very excited about our People’s Messiah concerts, which are coming up this weekend on the 4th and 5th of December. They’re always tons of fun and a great way to welcome the Christmas season, and all proceeds go to two worthy Adelaide charities. For anyone who is unfamiliar with the concept of a People’s Messiah, the idea is that anyone can come along armed with a score (or borrow one at the door on the way in) and then join in on the choruses. Anyone is also free to just sit back and enjoy the sound, but audience participation is encouraged! Click here for further information on dates and bookings.

As we don’t sing the full Messiah at Christmas, below is a list of the choruses that we’ll be singing this year for any particularly enthusiastic participants who would like to practise beforehand.

    People’s Messiah Choruses 2010:

Chorus – And the glory of the Lord
Chorus – And he shall purify
Chorus – O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion
    Chorus – Glory to God
Chorus – His yoke is easy
Chorus – Lift up your heads
Chorus – The Lord gave the word
Chorus – Their sound is gone out
Chorus – Let us break their bonds asunder
    Chorus – Hallelujah
Chorus – Since by man came death
Chorus – Worthy is the Lamb
    Chorus – Amen

We hope to see you there!
